So the candidates were taken aback by his anger. Foreman didn't care. He hadn't meant for Amber to think that he thought she was getting in the way, but of course it had come out wrong, or at the wrong time. He couldn't even get that right. Normally she'd love it if he was insulting the rest of them. And this time he'd managed to make her think that he was talking about her.
Calmly, Taub raised his eyebrows. "I'm with the scary lady," he said dryly. "MS is too slow."
Foreman glared at him. It was crystal clear that none of them had forgotten House jeering at him because he didn't dominate Amber in their personal life. Fuck him for putting Foreman in this position, where he couldn't even concentrate on the medicine without being reminded that Amber guided every damn thing they did. It wasn't relevant, but to even attempt telling that to the candidates was too humiliating to imagine. Once Taub had jumped in, the others apparently felt safe enough to add their guesses. "I'm not with either of them," Thirteen said, her tone a little too ironic for Foreman's taste. "Amyloidosis fits with the areflexia."
"Meningitis is more likely with the fever," Cole put in.
Foreman forced himself to take a breath. Fine. There was a differential in progress, much as he didn't care for the answers they were coming up with. "It's too fast for amyloidosis. The areflexia rules out meningitis. And lupus this aggressive wouldn't bypass her kidneys. Start her on interferon."
